Daily Schedule

Early Dismissal
The Rice School/La Escuela Rice dismisses every Friday at 1:00 pm. Students who ride a bus will be picked up at 1:00 and their after school care must accommodate this schedule. Car riders must have other arrangements made for early pick up. Students will not be supervised after 1:30. Any student left on campus after 1:30 must have prior approval by a campus administrator.

Elementary School students' schedule consists of all academic subjects being taught daily. Students also receive ancillary instruction daily in one of the following areas: Computer, Spanish, Physical Education, Music, Theater, Art (K-2), Science (3-5) Reading/Study Skills, and any others made available during the course of the school year. Students are assigned a homeroom teacher who will either provide or monitor academic progress. Our elementary classrooms are grouped in clusters of five classrooms, and teachers work cooperatively to provide optimum instruction to all students. Clusters refer to themselves as "families" and regularly function in that way. Each student has an opportunity to interact with each teacher in his/her cluster: through direct instruction, co-curricular instruction or cluster activities.

Middle School students' have an "alternating block schedule". Each student has eight academic/elective courses, meeting four per day for 1.5 hours per period. We have identified these days on the school calendar as BLUE or GRAY. The Blue days are periods 1-4 while the Gray days are periods 5-8. The result is students meet with each class every other day. It is very important that parents help their children keep up with BLUE/GRAY days so they are prepared for class on the correct day.

A 35 minute tutorial has been built in to the schedule Monday-Thursday - for all students.
