What is the SDMT?
The Shared Decision Making Team (SDMT) is established as a campus level planning and decision-making group to involve the professional staff of the School, parents, and community members in establishing plans, goals, performance objectives, budget issues and major classroom instructional programs. The officers of the SDMT are the principal, who is the chair, a parent co-chair, a secretary and such other officers as the SDMT may designate. The membership consists of 21 members - teachers, staff, parents, community and business representatives. The three subcommittees meet on the fourth Wednesday in conjunction with the regular SDMT meeting. At the monthly meetings each committee reviews the areas of the SIP related to their function. The SDMT agenda includes regular reports from these committees, including updates on the SIP implementation status. The agenda for the SDMT is established by the subcommittees and consultation with the parent co-chair. Issues and items for the monthly agendas are those identified by the subcommittees; other necessary items for SDMT action as identified by the Chair and co-chair by members of The Rice School/'La Escuela Rice community. Issues on the agenda are presented and discussed, using a time limit of fifteen minutes. Decisions are made on a consensus basis.

The secretary records minutes of the SDMT meetings. Decisions of the SDMT meetings are summarized and read at the end of each SDMT meeting. A summary version is available on e-mail,and is included in the Falcon Flyer (school newspaper). Copies of the complete minutes are filed in the library and main office and are available on request, in unedited form, to any person requesting them.
