Physical Properties

Looking at GAK:

Purpose:
To demonstrate new substances can be made combining two or more substances
To compare properties of new substance to originals.
To follow safety guidelines.

Materials:
beakers, graduated cylinder, medicine dropper, wooden stick (stir), water, borax solution, glue, lab apron, safety goggles, paper towels, sandwich bags, food coloring

Procedure:

Teacher will: make Borax solution.
Student will:
1. Place 20.0mL of Elmers white glue in a beaker

2. Add 20.0mL of water in the same beaker. Add food coloring if desired. Mix Well

3. Add 17.0mL of Borax Solution. Mix Well. Knead with hands

4. Describe your product (observations: quantitative and/or qualitative)

5. Clean and dry all of your equipment. No residue should be in your containers.

List PHYSICAL PROPERTIES of each substance before you combine them.

Some examples of physical properties:
Shape, Color, Odor, Texture, Viscosity, Magnetic, State of Matter, Strength, Other…..
