Solar Collector

Materials:
aluminum foil, sunlight, thermometer

Procedure:

  1. Take the temperature of the air in Celsius.
  2. Take a 50.0cm sheet of aluminum foil and create a funnel.
  3. Place the thermometer in the bottom hole of the funnel and take the temperature over several minutes.

Once you are finished collecting your data, place your finger in the bottom of the funnel.
Can you feel the heat (energy)?

1. Was there a temperature change? YES or NO

2. What was the lowest temperature? ______________
3. What was the highest temperature? ______________
4. What was the temperature range? _______________

Error is a always a concern. What are some problems you had with your experiment?

How do you think holding the funnel may change your results?

What are some other factors that you think may change the outcome of your results?
